Our very own Poet-in-Residence, Gwynne Lewis, has been busy penning an ode for National Poetry Day!
Wring Ring
It was early in the morning, the sun was still asleep The birds were dreaming wiggly worms And moles were buried deep
The mobile phone was trembling, there’s no way he could stall A bleary eyed consultant Reached out to take the call
Your F’ in driver isn’t here, the load has got to go And if he doesn’t come in soon My fuse is gonna blow
So struggle out from slumber, a warm patch deep in bed And down the stairs to switch it on The laptop and my head
Well Bill McGee was booked in, for half past 4 today It’s now just 3 55 and so He’s prob’ly on his way
I put the kettle on the stove and ring Bill on his line He’s pulling in to DHL And everything is fine
I call the transport office, there is no answer here So back to bed I stumble And at the ceiling stare
I cannot get back into sleep the sandman’s somewhere late So reading facebook on my phone Until the clock chimes 8
Then into work I struggle, with legs on auto mode My eyes refuse to open On coffee over-load
The day gets better by the hour, the rush hour is a fuss A bridge strike on the motorway I hope he’s not from us
And Gill has called in sick again, she’s got a poorly toe So bang goes going early We’ve got a lot to do
It’s Friday so I’ll have tonight to get some sleep and then We’re back again on Monday To start it all again
