Commercial driving has seen many twists and turns over the past couple of decades – new technology, new regulations, new safety standards, you name it. But through it all, Driver Require has remained a trusted commercial driver recruitment partner for drivers and employers in the industry. 

We’re proud to be celebrating 25 years in the business. From the early days of matching local drivers with regional jobs to becoming one of the most recognised driver recruitment agencies in the country, we’ve always gone beyond the extra mile. And we’re not planning to hit the brakes anytime soon! 

As we mark our silver anniversary, we’re feeling proud of everything we’ve achieved. To celebrate, we’re taking a look back at some of our highlights (so far!) and shining a light on the people who’ve been part of the journey.

25 years of milestones and memories 

Since opening our doors back in 2000, we’ve stayed true to our core values of doing exceptional work and delivering on every promise we make.

And whether it’s been helping drivers find jobs they love or connecting clients with professional drivers they can count on, we've loved every second of this incredible journey.

Today, we’ve grown to six branches covering 12 locations across the South East and Midlands. Since 2009, we’ve averaged around 30% growth each year, proof of the strong relationships we’ve built and the trust our clients and drivers place in us.

Our favourite stat of all? Each year, our drivers complete over 62,500 shifts and cover an incredible 14 million miles. That’s more than 560 laps around the world, in case you were wondering!

The essential team members who made it all happen

Of course, none of what we’ve just shared would be possible without the incredible people behind it all.

Our team is currently made up of around 30 talented individuals. From our dedicated recruiters and branch managers to our operations, finance, and leadership teams, every person contributes in their own special way.

But as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’re taking a moment to shine a light on those who’ve been with us the longest. These are the people who’ve helped shape Driver Require into the company it is today.

Gwynne Lewis, CEO

Our CEO Gwynne joined Driver Require back in 2004 after many years in retail management. Looking for a new challenge, Gwynne made the leap into recruitment and hasn’t looked back since.

Under the guidance of Driver Require founder Steve Prince, he learned the ins and outs of the business. Gwynne used his friendly, people-first approach to build strong client relationships and grow the company’s reputation.

Now as CEO, Gwynne leads with the same values that have shaped his entire career: honesty, integrity, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Ian Datlen, Operations, Projects, and HGV driver 

Ian joined Driver Require in late 2006 as a Recruitment Consultant after a stint working as a temporary HGV driver. 

Since then, his role has evolved from recruiting and managing drivers to expanding the customer base and leading CPC training. Ian even got back behind the wheel himself during tough times like the 2009 financial crisis and COVID-19. 

Now office-based again, Ian focuses on projects that support growth and keep Driver Require ticking over behind the scenes.

But Ian still likes to take a hands-on approach and put his HGV UK driving licence to good use whenever he can. Most recently, he launched his own video series sharing practical tips for new drivers just starting out or those looking to refresh their skills with on-the-job training.

Nathan Humphreys, IT and Operations

Nathan joined Driver Require in August 2005 after getting to know the team while working at Stapleton Tyres, one of our early customers.

When the 2008 recession hit, Nathan, like Ian, swapped the office for an HGV cab, helping keep the business moving and gaining first-hand experience of life on the road. He later returned to the office to help roll out new systems, manage payroll for Ocado, and eventually take on the critical role of IT.

From a team of four to more than 30, Nathan’s seen Driver Require grow and overcome every challenge thrown at us, and he’s been a big part of that journey.

Daniella Laviola-Dyer, Finance Manager 

Daniella joined Driver Require in March 2016 as an administrator within the accounts team. At just 22, she was one of the youngest members of the company: eager to learn and ready to make her mark. 

Supported by the company, Daniella went on to study for her accounting qualifications, completing her training while continuing to take on more payroll responsibilities. 

Over the years, Daniella has been recognised with the Employee of the Year award three times, a reflection of her passion, commitment, and exceptional service to her team and the whole company.
