Eat Better, Feel Better
Top tips and inspiration for a new health drive
Eating healthily whilst on the go with limited healthy options in motorway service stations, petrol garages and truck-stops is a daily challenge for our drivers with the added issue of some working unsociable hours.
To avoid reaching for the easy option and eating the junk food readily available it is a good idea to stock up on good, healthy, and portable snacks including fruit, raw veggies with a healthy dip like hummus, low fat yogurt (don’t forget your spoon!), dried fruits and nuts for example. You are more likely to choose a healthier option if they are to hand.
Adding variety to your packed lunches will help you stop getting tired of them and coming off the healthy track into the fast food establishments. Sandwiches, crisps and a drink does not need to be boring – get creative with a wrap, pitta bread or sourdough sandwiches, pasta salad to name but a few. Have you tried making your own soup and taking with you in a flask – another great, healthy alternative lunch idea. See the recipe link below for inspiration.
Staying hydrated is very important and that does not mean filling up on your cups of tea or coffee – a good old glass of water is the answer. In the UK, the Eatwell Guide suggests you should aim for 6-8 glasses of water and other liquids to replace normal water loss. You don’t have to ditch the caffeine (just all the teaspoons of sugar and full fat milk) completely but top up your hydration with plain water.
At Driver Require we really want to wave the flag on healthy eating on the go and would love you to tag us in to any of your lunch pictures and add a hash tag or two to reach the driving community and inspire others. Let’s get us trending on Instagram: #driverhealthyeats #eatingonthgo #eatinghealthy #driversofinstagram and don’t forget to tag us @driverrequire
Next month we will be looking at meals at home and are asking that if any our fabulous drivers out there have any great recipes that we could feature in the next edition of The Extra Mile – please send to jenny.fisk@driverrequire.co.uk.
As promised here are a couple of recipe links to help you get started with your inspirational, healthy lunches:
