The importance of operators and agencies working together to ensure road safety and compliance with industry standards
Kieran Smith, CEO quoted in Commercial Motor magazine article
Lesley O’Brien OBE, Director at Freightlink Europe commented on an article in Commercial Motor magazine via LinkedIn. A powerful read, widely quoting Driver Require’s CEO Kieran Smith on the need for agency compliance, the Logistics UK DAE scheme, and our role as champions of the HGV drivers.
In the article Kieran “criticises the quality and competence of all too many agencies countrywide; and the poor standard of the driver they are in habit of supplying. I think it is atrocious”
“I am horrified by the lack of knowledge they have of everything from the drivers’ hours rules to how trucks should be loaded safely and securely”. “I am leading a refresh of the scheme’s strategy and standards”
“Much of Smith’s ire is directed towards some, though by no means all, of the major agencies who work in a variety of different industries and have insufficient awareness of the qualifications and capabilities of the drivers on their books. “They can be the worst, because they often lack the specialist knowledge transport requires” he argues.”
It also quotes Mike Bones of Velocity Recruitment, Sadie Weston of Employ/DRS, and David Jordan of Logistics UK, all of whom are members of the DAE Governance Group.
